base_ Pavilion

Commissioned by base_, this pavilion serves as a versatile space intended for conversations, exhibitions, and discussions centred around art, design, culture, and social issues. The structure was built using certified wood sourced from regenerative forests, triply, and steel pieces. It is constructed using the Shou Sugi Ban technique, where the wood is burned until the surface is charred and then coated with natural oil. The result is a scorched finish with a magnificent charcoal black colour that is sun—and water-resistant, preserving the quality of the materials and their intention.

With dimensions of 5.40 x 9.60 meters, it offers ample room for a variety of events and activities. Its unique and striking appearance stands out from the otherwise barren and industrial landscape in which it is currently located but acknowledging that this context will change over time. This temporary pavilion is designed to be easily assembled and reassembled, allowing flexibility and adaptability, including its appearance and dimensions.
