13 Exhibition

13 Exhibition

Personal affinities between curators and artists are usually silenced in contemporary exhibitions. However, ‘13’ aims to express this circumstance, drawing attention to the relationship with the individual as a vehicle for understanding their work. To this end, the audience is introduced to a series of intimate encounters with the work and presence of thirteen artists.
The present exhibition project gathers the work of artists from the Philippines, Lebanon, Germany, France, Spain, the United States, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Brazil and Chile. They are all linked by shared spatial and temporal concerns and a heterogeneous production which gravitates around the extensive universe of post-conceptualism.

The exhibition design was developed in conjunction with the curator’s project. In this way the gradation of light intensity in each of the five areas and the succession of partitions with different levels of opacity, from the near-transparency of silk to full blackout refer to the different layers of understanding of a work, as we go deeper into it. Furthermore, they seek to create intimate spaces for the purpose of getting closer to the sensibility, the context and the person of each artist.

The triggering factor for the presence of each of the guest artists is a moment of empathy between each of them and the curator. The description of this meeting figures on the label containing the name of the artist and their work, where certain personal aspects of the artist are disclosed, bringing us closer to the piece exhibited.
The room resembles a table with guests. The self-explanatory presence of the works is combined with the record of online chats among all the artists who for the most part have not yet in person, though every artist has chatted in private with each of the two other artists virtually seated beside them.
